The background and Objective: in recent years, as the borders of our county
become insecure, the project of establishing border ramparts in Hamun Lake has been designed and performed. In order to obtain a feedback of the costs and also to investigate the degree of the mentioned ramparts’ effectiveness on increasing the economic and social security levels of the region, this paper is going to investigate and address “the role of Hamun Lake border ramparts in developing economic and social security of Iran’s eastern borders.
Methodology: the present study is an analytical paper which has been conducted as a survey study. The statistical population are composed of two main parts as “the users of border ramparts (soldiers and commanders)” and “the other government employees (all employees working in various official parts of Zabol City).” The required sample size was determined 327 members based on the Morgan table and they were selected randomly by the two-stage cluster sampling method. The required data were collected based on library research, interviews, and also questionnaire.To test the reliability of the applied instruments in the research process, it has been preferred to use "Cronbachalpha test" and based on this the output alpha value was calculated as .83 using SPSS software.Also, in order to test the content validity, the ideas of the experts and the relevant theoretical literature and theories are considered as the basis.
Findings: the presence of Hamun Lake border ramparts has a significant effect of
“Regional prosperity”, “acceleration of social development of the region”,
“developing economic investments in the region”, “greater success in the fight
against smuggling”, “greater success in the fight against fuel smuggling”, “greater success in the fight against weapons smuggling”, “greater success in the fight against drug trafficking”, “greater success in the fight against armed bandits”, and finally “improving the sense of security among the people.”
Conclusions: public security is an impressive factor on social and economic
development of the border regions. Moreover, establishment of physical
constructions can significantly improve the sense of security among the people
of the region.
