Ethnic diversity is one of the most important social issues in the Islamic Republic of Iran. It seems that ethnic diversity can be a source of both challenges and opportunities for growth and development of the country and it can also be considered as a power supply. Ethnic groups living mainly in the border areas and neighboring countries with the same language lay the ground for the ethnic crisis and affect the national security. The Existence of ethnicity and consequently the hypothesis of undermining national security, especially in developing countries, has become a generalized hypothesis in the analysis of ethnic relations. But this hypothesis can not be generalized to all countries that have numerous ethnic groups. The aim of this study was to identify factors affecting the integration of ethnic groups, to create solidarity and social consensus in order to achieve national security. This paper, using descriptive-analytic approach and library research methods, aims to study the factors affecting the ethnic integration and is based on the assumption that the hard-ware, political, and security behavior with ethnic groups would lead to increase the sense of political and economic deprivation. The diversity of ethnic groups in Iran is not considered as an undermining factor of national security, rather it is considered as consistency and continuity of the identity. Therefore, the threats posed by the ethnic groups have not been radical and fundamental; they are considered to be due to the changes and new challenges. Hence, central government must adopt specific policies to lead the ethnic groups towards national participation and with proper management solve these threats.
