The most stable element in Iran's national security in the past centuries was geography of this country that, in one hand, placed Iran in the center of its surroundings and, on the other hand, it does not practically and geographically belong to any of its surrounding areas. Iranian ethnic groups with their own cross-border sequences in Azerbaijan, Turkey, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have been the result of such a historic experience for ethnic groups. Therefore, the security of international borders and frontiersmen of Iran and Azerbaijan border in particular is heavily influenced by the surrounding territories and the guarantee of its realization is the management and security of the borders. This study seeks to examine the factors that influence the border management between Iran and Azerbaijan, which include geographic, defense, and economic factors, and leave a great impact on the environment of the two countries. Something that can be found is that despite having some opportunistic issues due to related to the legal regime of the Caspian Sea boundaries, the conflict of Nagorno-Karabakh and America's presence, the relations between Iran and Azerbaijan will be faced with significant challenges. In this study, the data were gathered through library studies (articles and books) and the research methodology is descriptive-analytic.
