Iran is a country with numerous ethnic groups located in the country's quadrangle and plays an important role in the security of the country and national solidarity. The need for national unity in Iran is the unity and integrity between the ethnic groups and the central government. The Turkmen Iranians living in the north and northeastern parts of the country have racial, language, and social structure differences with other countrymen, but this difference has not prevented the interaction of this people with other Iranians, except in cases where internal or external factors have contributed to the development of contradictions and differences. Considering the importance of the influence of ethnic policies on the national security of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the nature of this effect (positive or negative) on the Turkmen people has become an essential and important question. This paper, conducted by a descriptive-analytical method and based on the Copenhagen Security Theory, is based on the following question: how was the ethnic policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the case of Turkmen in the reform period? According to research findings, ethnic policies and actions of various governments of the Islamic Republic on the path of securing the Turkmen Sahra region have been in the right direction, which, of course, needs to be strengthened and, in some cases, a review of the processes. In the reform period, ethnic politics has entered a new and different stage, due to the open-mindedness of political and sympathetic perspectives and the greater convergence between the various ethnic groups of the country, including the Turkmen nation with the national collection of Iran.
