International borders are the most important factor in separating a country from its neighboring countries. Among the major issues that countries have been facing with since long to this day and have used all of their forces to maintain and establish it is the defense and security inside their country against the encounter and invasion of foreigners within the borderlines. In establishing security and defending the boundaries of a border, a number of natural and human geographical complications are important, among which the natural morbidities and phenomena, especially geomorphologic landforms (phenomena), can be mentioned. Therefore, with regard to the mutual relationship between geography and security, this research aims to examine the geomorphologic landforms (phenomena) in establishing security and defending the northeast borders. In terms of its objectives the present study is of an applied research type and in terms of its method it is considered as a descriptive-analytical study. The data collection was conducted through library resources, field observations, studying aerial photographs and images. The results of this research showed that the east of the study area (Lotfabad) cannot be suitable for security and defense due to the large field of fire. The west of the study area (Northwest of Nehbandan and Bajgiran) cannot be suitable due to the lower variation of geomorphologic complications and other factors mentioned in the findings of the research. Therefore, the only suitable location in this area in terms of security and defense of the study center (Nokhandan), with more geomorphologic variation and the correspondence of the border strip in this area with mountain ranges, can play a significant role in the formation of security and defense.
